All the SMC members attend the SMC meetings regularly and enthusiastically participate in all activities that we undertake. We have been able to bring about a lot of change in our school. We have created a playground for students and raised money to install CCTV cameras in the school. Because of this, we were able to get approval to make our school a center for Grade 10 and 12 board examinations.

The main responsibilities of an SMC include- preparing a school development plan, overseeing utilization of school grants and monitoring the academic activities in the school. Parents are involved in an SMC so that they can monitor the growth of the students. It is our hope that the actions of the Haryana government give strength to the working of schools and the overall growth of students.

According to Haryana Gazzette Notification 2011, we have constituted SMCs in schools. SMCs are formed every 2 years. This year’s (2023) formation has been done in a new manner- we called the parents, ABRCs, BRPs, got their training done, conducted social awareness campaigns, munadis, door to door campaigns, teachers and parents spoke to eachother saying there is a ‘festival’ being celebrated in the school and its name is Sanjhi Sabha

Samarthya is committed in improving the quality of education in India and they are involved in various aspects of education. One of the areas that Samarthya is deeply involved in and committed to is improving school processes in terms of strengthening the School Management Committee. Through that, they aim to improve the quality of parents interaction interest and involvment in the schools.  The kind of work that Samarthya is doing, I am sure will go a long way in strengthening this vital part of parental participation in the education system.

I am an SMC member. I have raised issues in SMC meetings about repairing fans, getting the washrooms cleaned, getting proper mid-day meals, and many more. Because of regularly attending SMC meetings, I have seen a lot of change in myself. My confidence has increased a lot and I don’t get scared while talking and I think students should be a part of SMC so they also can talk like me.

Ever since we have effectively constituted and trained SMCs in Punjab, parents recognize that they are avenues for them to participate and bring about changes in their school. They regularly interact with teachers and assist in the resourceful utilization of school grants for the welfare of all the students in the school.

I think this session was very fruitful. There was community participation from different angles. Our suggestions and ideas were heard- parents and village council representatives were included
